Who Are The Actuarial Team?

The Actuarial team plays a key role in supporting the business by analysing risk, assessing financial performance, and providing insight to inform strategic decisions.

The team works across several core areas:

  • Reserving – assessing claims and estimating future liabilities
  • Pricing – supporting underwriting decisions through risk modelling and pricing analysis
  • Capital – ensuring the business holds sufficient capital to meet regulatory and strategic needs

You will gain exposure to how these areas connect, providing a well-rounded view of the actuarial function within a global insurer.

What Is The Role?

We are seeking a curious and analytically minded Actuarial Intern to join our Actuarial team. This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience across key actuarial disciplines, including reserving, pricing, and capital.

During your internship, you will work alongside experienced actuaries, primarily within the Reserving team, while also gaining exposure to Pricing and Capital. You will support real business activity, helping analyse data, explore trends, and contribute to reporting and modelling activities.

This role will give you a broad understanding of how actuarial teams support decision-making within a global specialty (re)insurer, and how actuarial insights shape underwriting performance and financial outcomes.

By the end of your placement, you will have developed practical analytical skills and a clearer understanding of how actuarial careers operate within insurance and financial services.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting data manipulation, validation, and analysis
  • Assisting with analysis of claims data to identify trends and insights
  • Helping to produce reports and exhibits that present data clearly
  • Supporting reserving activities, including analysis of claim development
  • Assisting with pricing activities, including case pricing and model support
  • Contributing to internal and regulatory reporting processes
  • Attending meetings with teams such as underwriting and claims
  • Supporting ad-hoc projects across the actuarial team

What Will You Gain?

This internship is designed to combine hands-on experience with meaningful exposure across actuarial work.

You will:

  • Gain an understanding of the core actuarial disciplines: reserving, pricing, and capital both through initial formal training and meeting and working with the team
  • Build analytical capability through working with data, models, and reporting outputs
  • Learn how actuarial insights support underwriting and business decision-making by shadowing and attending meetings
  • Develop experience presenting data and insights in a clear, structured way
  • Gain exposure to collaboration across actuarial, underwriting, and claims teams
  • Build confidence working in a technical, professional environment
