Sanctuary Graduates and Apprentices are delighted to be working with a leading, international provider of specialised energy products to find them a new Associate Accountant. The role will be joining a stable team of six accountants to work closely alongside the trading floor.
About the Role
The Associate Accountant will responsible for supporting the management, financial and trade accounting functions of the business. The primary focus of this role is to provide settlements support for the energy business which is instrumental in recording accounting entries. Settlements will include physical purchases and sales, chartering, bunker inventory, FX, financial swaps and emissions.
Responsibilities also include monthly accounting close, compilation of audit support, and support for compliance requirements including internal and external audit requests. This vital role within the business will also support in areas of general and administrative costs accounting and reporting as well as statutory reporting compliance items.
The position requires frequent communication, including face-to-face, with both internal and external stakeholders, including traders, operations, credit, treasury, tax and IT.
- Settlements for the business
- Coordinate and communicate effectively with UK personnel as well as the US function to ensure proper cut-off, accuracy and completeness of journal entries
- Provide support for the month-end, quarter-end and financial year close
- Prepare journals for the trading and corporate functions
- Balance sheet reconciliations
- Ensure that UK accounting function continues to be a dependable, trusted provider of high-quality accounting services to the UK and US businesses and identify process improvements
About You
In order to be successful in this role you should have strong organisational skills whilst thinking critically, problem solve independently, assume responsibility and collaborate effectively with both UK and US stakeholders. Due to the stakeholder management elements of this role, you will have excellent verbal and written communication skills. Key Skills
- A bachelor's degree in a relevant field is required with 1-2 year's experience post-graduation
- Ideally you will have at least started training for your CIMA or ACCA qualification
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to work with all levels of management and employees
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work productively and constructively with others
- Willingness and ability to take direction from supervisors and learn independently
- Proficient at balancing competing demands and maintaining efficiency in a fast-paced environment
- Emphasis on attention to detail and producing accurate, complete deliverables
- Desire to understand the big picture on how their role fits into the overall company environment
- Ambition to develop new skills, create efficiencies, and perform proactively
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office products including Word and PowerPoint but with excellent Microsoft Excel skills; willingness, ability and intellectual appetite to learn new software applications
- Must be willing to work outside of normal office hours as and when required
