Who Are The Exposure Management Team?

The Exposure Management team plays a key role in helping the business understand, manage, and control catastrophe risk across its global portfolio.

The team works closely with:

  • Underwriters to assess and price risk
  • Actuarial and risk teams to support portfolio oversight
  • External partners and tools to model and analyse catastrophe exposures

You will gain insight into how risk is quantified, managed, and communicated across the organisation, and how this supports both strategic and day-to-day underwriting decisions.

What Is The Role?

We are seeking a curious and analytically minded Catastrophe Risk Intern to join our Exposure Management team. This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in how insurers assess and manage catastrophe risk across a global portfolio.

During your internship, you will work alongside catastrophe risk analysts and underwriters, supporting a range of analytical and reporting activities. You will gain insight into how catastrophe models are used, how risk exposures are monitored, and how data supports underwriting decisions.

This role will give you exposure to different lines of business and the opportunity to contribute to real work during key periods, providing a broad understanding of exposure management within a global (re)insurer.

By the end of your placement, you will have developed a strong foundation in catastrophe risk and how it supports underwriting strategy and portfolio management.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting the preparation of catastrophe risk metrics and analysis for underwriting teams
  • Assisting with data validation, aggregation, and reporting of risk exposures
  • Supporting the production of regular (e.g. monthly/quarterly) exposure reports
  • Assisting with analysis to understand changes in portfolio risk over time
  • Supporting the use of catastrophe modelling tools and internal systems
  • Collaborating with underwriters and other teams on exposure-related queries
  • Assisting with ad-hoc analysis and projects during key underwriting periods
  • Supporting process improvement or automation initiatives within the team

What Will You Gain?

This internship is designed to combine practical experience with meaningful exposure to catastrophe risk modelling and analysis.

You will:

  • Gain an understanding of how catastrophe risks (e.g. natural disasters) are assessed and modelled
  • Build analytical capability through working with exposure data, reports, and modelling outputs
  • Learn how risk insights are used to support underwriting and business decision-making
  • Gain exposure to catastrophe modelling tools and reporting platforms
  • Understand how exposure is monitored across portfolios and different classes of business
  • Develop experience collaborating with underwriting teams and other stakeholders
