What is the role? 

The Private Wealth Associate will support the Private Wealth team to effectively service clients and manage client portfolios through the investment management process. The heart of Ruffer is investment performance and service that puts clients first. 

  • Clients- Relationship Management   

    • Understand the client types, structures and individual background of the team’s clients (e.g., demographic, background, situation)  

    • Support Director/Manager and Client Associate in all aspects of client relationship across the client lifecycle extending, but not limited to:  

    • Preparation of materials and documents for client meetings in line with Ruffer’s standards  

    • Attendance at client meetings, taking minutes/actions and distributing in a timely manner to colleagues and clients  

    • Communicate with clients to respond and deal with day-to-day queries where appropriate, e.g., payment requests, account restructures, performance and portfolio updates, market updates, requests for new client proposals  

    • Support management in the day-to-day relationship of the client base, keeping them advised appropriately throughout the client lifecycle  

    • Where relevant, work with the team to support tax planning and portfolio management activity, including providing the team with the necessary information required for ISAs, CGT and reconciliations  

    • Assist in the production of timely quarterly and bespoke client reporting, in line with relevant regulations and support the Client Associate during the quarterly reporting period with matters such as performance queries.   

  • Investment   

    • With supervision from a Director/Manager, the Associate must be able to undertake the following core requirements:  

      • Ability to communicate Ruffer’s investment philosophy and current outlook  

      • Have an awareness and understanding of the overall financial markets and its impact on Ruffer and its clients    

      • Attendance and input, as relevant, at internal investment meetings  

  • Regulation and Policy  

    • Act as the first line of defence and be fully aware of and adhere to current and future regulatory (FCA) obligations and their application to the Ruffer environment  

    • Ensure full regulatory landscape is understood and complied with through adherence to compliance manual and processes, completion of relevant Continuing Professional Development (CPD) training, annual compliance training, ongoing assessment and associated record keeping for oneself  

    • Anything else that may be reasonably requested. 

 

Who can apply? 
  • Qualifications and Experience 

    • Graduate with a minimum 2.1 degree or equivalent in any subject 

    • High standard of IT literacy (MS Office, Word, PowerPoint, Excel) 

    • High standard of oral and written communication – able to break down complex subject matter to people of different disciplines and levels. 

    • The individual is expected to study to aim towards becoming a certified investment management professional, therefore the expectation is that they will complete/have completed the IMC and would be supported to go on to study with the CFA or the CISI wealth management qualification.
