What is the event?

Spring Into Insurance is a careers programme that brings university students in their first and second years, to the heart of insurance in the city of London. This program offers students a unique insight into the working of the global specialty insurance market, which enables planes to fly, ships to sail and to clear the way for further space exploration. This industry allows you to tailor your career to your interests and hobbies. If music is your thing, you could be instrumental in facilitating global music events such as the eras tour, famously insured in the London Market, or, if sport is your ball game, you might become a leading expert in insuring famous sports stars. The London specialty insurance market has it all.

By participating in this interactive one-day event you will:

  • Have gained an industry recognised experience that will stand to you in your future application processes
  • Have gained an insight into life in one of London's leading financial services sectors
  • Networked with industry professionals and potential employers
  • Have grown your understanding of risk and why insurance is a vital financial service, helping businesses, communities, and individuals all over the world
  • Get an insight into career opportunities, recruitment processes and tips on interviews and securing a role in the industry
  • Get invited to an exclusive career’s festival in the City in July 2025

Over the course of this taster day, you will be introduced to the type of jobs this sector has to offer. You will learn about the role of a broker, how underwriters assess risk and why a loss adjuster is the first on the scene when disaster strikes. We will introduce you to all this and more through a series of interactive sessions led by market experts through real life case studies.

Annually the London Insurance market employs graduates, summer interns, and industrial placement students.

Why consider a career in specialty risk?
  • London is a global centre for specialty risk, larger than any of its rivals. It’s where airlines, tech giants, football clubs and satellite operators (to name only a few) come to protect themselves from the largest risks they face. This means a career in the London Market is a career with global horizons
  • You can turn your passion into a career – this is an incredibly broad sector in terms of roles and career paths, so whether you are interested in art or space, sport or supercars, insurance has something for you.
  • It offers better ‘work-life’ balance than many financial sectors (especially investment banks) while being as well paid as many other areas of financial services.

Who can apply?
  • First year students
  • Any degree and field of study is welcome to attend
  • Those interested in a career in insurance or just want to find out more
  • Those able to make the dates and time of the event
  • Those with strong analytic, inter-personal and team working capabilities.

Testimonials
  • Abbie Hero, Studied Biomedical Sciences, Broker – “It is so varied you could be looking at insuring absolutely anything. I love working in this sector there is this whole analytical realm of researching and understanding your clients demands and need and then there is the pace of it. I love being kept on my toes, I am constantly coming across new things and expanding my knowledge. My general knowledge has drastically improved, I would definitely be a dark horse at a pub quiz now.”
  • Charlote Bender, Studied English Literature, Insurer – “My role is seeing everyone’s point of view to get the best result for all parties. I love fixing things and trying to solve a thorny problem. I work with political risks. This is a specialist area of insurance so you really get under the skin of the problems, you read the news – Ukraine, Israel etc, and you have clients who are in the middle of it.”
  • Guy Bronze, Studied Geography and Environmental Hazards, Analyst – Guy has worked as an analyst with insurer Munich Re since 2015 working to model the risks of the future. Using data over a specific timeframe, Guy thinks about what weather events like floods and windstorms mean in terms of damage done and the cost of putting it right. But it’s not just about tech and maths, “I need to make it understandable to my colleagues – a different but equally important skill”.
  • Fancy a podcast? Emma white talks about travelling the world to insure dinosaur bones.
  • Studying art? You can turn your art degree into a career insuring the world most famous paintings. Find out more here.
