What is the role?

The two-year graduate programme will provide the candidate with a thorough knowledge of all of the VPI sites with a particular focus on the Electrical Engineering aspects of the Damhead Creek site, with a view to expanding their professional capabilities and knowledge in order for them to achieve chartership and further.

The programme over the two years will be based with Electrical Engineering, part of the central engineering team within VPIs operational business. As a graduate within the Electrical Engineering team, you will be supporting and delivering projects, operational improvements and the required governance to enable reliable deployment of the generation portfolio in the UK and Ireland. The role will incorporate placements with other teams in the operational business to provide the breadth and depth of knowledge required for large power station operation and engineering: -

You will undertake a minimum 10 weeks at different plants (Damhead Creek, Kent; Rye House, Hertfordshire; Shoreham, Sussex; Blackburn, Lancashire and Immingham, Lincolnshire) to gain a clearer understanding of how the plants are operated. This will include carrying out operational routines, familiarisation with the Safety Rules process and identifying plant and assets. The remainder of the programme will be tailored to the graduate through a mix of formal training, coaching and on the job training.

Who is suitable to apply?

Educated to Degree standard in Mechanical, Aeronautical, Electrical and Electronics Engineering.

A positive 'can do' mentality, self-motivated, setting the right behaviours.

An ability to think laterally and flexibly to deliver solutions and a 'process driven' focus to delivery.

Good communication skills.

Ability to handle multiple work projects running together as the business need arises.

Desire to learn about the UK power market.

Good organisational skills.

Strong IT and Microsoft office capabilities.

Can be within a 1-hour commute from the power station site.

Right to work in the UK.

A valid Driving License and access to a car is essential.

Happy to be on site 5 days a week.
