Who Are The Information & Technology Team

The Information & Technology team is responsible for designing, building, and supporting the systems and digital platforms used across the business.

Working in collaborative agile delivery teams, the technology function brings together developers, analysts, and business stakeholders to deliver solutions that support business operations and improve how the organisation works. 

What Is The Role?

As an Apprentice Developer at Canopius, you will begin your career within a modern Agile technology environment, learning how software solutions are designed, built, tested, and supported across the business.

You will “earn while you learn”, working towards a recognised apprenticeship qualification while gaining hands-on experience within a collaborative engineering team. You will support the development of software used across the organisation and gain exposure to modern development tools, cloud technologies, and Agile ways of working.

Working alongside experienced developers and technical specialists, you will gradually build your skills in software development, problem solving, and collaborative delivery while contributing to real technology projects. 

Responsibilities will include:

  • Support the development of software features by assisting with writing and updating code under the guidance of experienced developers.
  • Help develop and maintain software components using technologies such as JavaScript, HTML/CSS, C#, SQL, and low-code platforms such as Power Apps or Power Automate where appropriate.
  • Assist with documenting requirements, user stories, and technical notes to support software development activities.
  • Support the testing of software solutions, including unit testing and functional testing activities.
  • Learn and follow best practices for coding, version control, and secure software development.
  • Participate in Agile team activities such as stand-ups, sprint planning sessions, and retrospectives.
  • Assist with managing development tasks using tools such as Azure DevOps or similar platforms.
  • Work collaboratively with developers, analysts, and other team members to help deliver technology solutions.
  • Support the investigation and resolution of technical issues under supervision.
  • Learn about emerging technologies and tools used in modern software development, including AI-assisted development tools. 

What Will You Work Towards?

You will work towards an externally accredited Software Developer or Software Engineer Apprenticeship qualification.

You will study for your apprenticeship with the support of a specialist training provider while gaining practical experience in your role. The apprenticeship combines structured learning with on-the-job experience to help you build the knowledge and technical skills required for a career in software development.

  • Basic understanding of at least one programming or scripting language (e.g., Python, JavaScript, C#, SQL, or similar).
