The opportunity 

We have an exciting apprenticeship opportunity to join our recently established Data Insights & Proposition team during an exciting period of growth for the business internationally. Preferably, we are seeking an ambitious, diligent and numerically orientated individual who relishes challenges. During your time with Markel, you will be exposed to a multitude of business areas and provide meaningful contributions from the offset.  

Throughout the Data Insights & Propositions Apprenticeship with Markel, you will gain exposure to all areas within the department, and many areas of the wider business. You will be surrounded by a friendly and collaborative team who will support you in completing your Level 4 Market research executive apprenticeship.   

 

What you’ll be doing 

The Data Insights and Propositions team plays a crucial role in Markel International’s success.  

  • They are responsible for conducting research, analysing data, identifying gaps and trends in their findings, and subsequently sharing recommendations with the broader organisation to enhance processes and products. 

  • They collaborate closely with and have constant communication with senior stakeholders within the business and external brokers and therefore are a highly people facing team.  

  • They act as experts in finding solutions to market problems. 

  • Have a profound impact of the business’ direction of travel. 

  • Develop an understanding of the insurance industry and its nuances. 

  • Confidently interact with internal stakeholders to uncover their opinions of and issues with working practices. 

  • Support in conducting efficient market research to inform insights and recommendations for the wider business. 

  • Utilise statistical tools to analyse varied data sets - facilitating the identification of trends. 

  • Concisely communicate findings via reports and presentations. 

  • Create, develop and maintain data dashboards to monitor the performance of propositions. 

  • Ensure all data recorded is accurate to comply with business standards. 

  • Collaborate effectively alongside other departments to assist Markel in their pursuit of excellence.

Our must haves 

Markel are looking for candidates who:  

  • Possess strong Microsoft Office skills (namely Excel & PowerPoint). 

  • Have excellent verbal and written presentation skills. 

  • Have a desire to work on projects and ability to effectively prioritise workload. 

  • Have confidence working in a fast-paced environment; able to work well independently but are not afraid to ask questions when necessary. 

  • Can build and maintain relationships with colleagues through strong written and verbal communication.  

  • Possess strong research skills and confidence when working with numbers and datasets. 

  • Experience using data tools such as Tableau & PowerBI desirable although not essential. 

  • Have a proactive approach to work – we will of course also assist you to best develop your skillset and capitalise on this opportunity. 

  • Display strong interpersonal skills, collaborative, loves building relationships, brings out the best in others, making our culture the stuff of envy. 

  • Are proactive and are always looking for ways to innovate and improve what we do.  

  • Have achieved, or are predicted, 3 A-levels grade C or above / grades equivalent to 96 UCAS points.  

  • Have achieved GCSE Maths and English at Grade 6 (B) or above (or equivalent qualification).
