What is the role?
Support to the fleet of CCGT power stations and associated activities within the VPI portfolio.
Provide chemical advice to the operations teams to ensure the safe, reliable and economic operation of the assets.
Take a hands-on approach in trouble shooting process problems within water treatment, cycle chemistry and cooling water chemistry.
Provide advice on all aspects of plant preservation on all relevant plant in order to mitigate corrosion mechanisms.
Assist in plant inspections to determine the efficacy of the water steam cycle chemical dosing philosophy / program.
Maintain and control the management of legionella in accordance to the ACoP.
Develop and maintain external relationships with technical service providers and liaise with OEM support staff.
Maintain communication with the site operational teams.
Act as an advisor on safety matters including chemical safety, Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH), confined space entry and incident response.
Take an overview of chemistry procedures and practices in order to develop them in line with industry standard best practices.
Review site chemical contracts with a view to establish and maintain a contract strategy consistent with the wider VPI practices.
Provide support for: environmental monitoring, reporting, liaison with external bodies and incident response. Geographic involvement throughout the UK and potentially Europe.
Liaison with staff of other Utilities and external technical specialists.
Review of engineering standards associated with the Water Steam Cycle Chemistry.
Willing to travel at short notice between sites.
Contribute to the formulation and implementation of station policy and strategy.
Assist in training of Production Staff in the operation and management of the systems.
Assist on new projects to improve the reliability and function of systems and overall protection of the assets.
Preparation of technical specifications for contract work during and outside plant outages
Attendance and active input on specialist technical bodies.
Technical support for development projects including design review and input into hazard studies and design stage risk assessments.
Who is suitable to apply?
You are studying a Degree in a relevant subject
