Graduate 2 Year Scheme

 

  • This two-year graduate programme will provide the candidate with a thorough knowledge of all aspects of all production related activities within VPI’s power stations.

  • Providing essential support to VPI’s sites and across the application portfolio.

  • The programmes will be tailored to the graduate.

 

Graduate Positions: Desired Qualifications and Skills:

 

  • Studying a Degree in a relevant subject

  • Ability to handle multiple work projects running together as the business need arises

  • A positive 'can do' mentality, self-motivated, setting the right behaviours.

  • An ability to think laterally and flexibly to deliver solutions and a 'process driven' focus to delivery.

  • Good communication skills, able to interact effectively with Contractors, senior management and other external stakeholders.

  • Desire to learn about the UK power market.

  • Good organisational skills and ability to manage multiple deliverables.

  • Advanced MS Office skills with the ability to analyse and manipulate data sets.

  • Valid Driving License + Access to car.

  • Within a commutable distance to chosen site (Relocation is not available for this role)

  • Right to work in UK.

 

Graduate Civil Engineer – Damhead Creek, Kent:

 

  • Provide civil engineering assistance and technical support throughout the business.

  • Carry out civil inspections and prepare concise and detailed reports on the findings.

  • Review reports prepared by others to ensure that these are precise and concise and meet the expected standard.

  • Carry out asset risk assessments based on the results from inspections and incorporate the findings in the asset management systems/plant status review.

  • The ability to prepare budget estimates for works based on accepted civil engineering guidance.

Graduate Product Technician – One role in Kent & one role in North Lincolnshire:

 

  • Carrying out operational routines, familiarisation with the Safety Rules process and identifying control and instrumentation devices and assets.

  • The candidate will have the opportunity if applicable to join either IMechE on either the Incorporated Engineer or Chartered Engineer route once they have been accepted on the programme.

  • Ensure that Combined Cycle Gas Turbine (CCGT) plant is operated in a safe and efficient manner.

  • Ensure compliance with relevant statutory requirements particularly the Health & Safety at Work Act and the Environmental Protection Act.

Graduate Application Technician – Immingham, North Lincolnshire:

 

  • Provide support, development and training of main O&M application processes, including Procurement and Finance, predominantly but not exclusively for Immingham ICHP.

  • Support process safety initiatives across the business.

  • Understand User needs and requirements, liaising with main stakeholders to develop business requirements, work with suppliers to manage projects through to completion once approved.

  • Support continuous improvement to Business process where managed through the applications.

  • Develop and refine Business metrics through KPI’s where relevant to the applications.

  • Provide first line support to Immingham site across the application portfolio.

12 Month Placement Roles:

 

A year in industry with VPI is a great opportunity to put the theory you are learning into practice at one of the largest energy producers in the UK operating 4 Combined Cycle Gas Turbine (CCGT), a large Combined Heat and Power (CHP) Plant.  This is a placement where you will have the opportunity to make a tangible difference. Not only will you learn valuable skills as you start out on your career, but you will also be doing so at one of our Operational sites that provide invaluable power and stability to the National Grid.

On your placement, you will get hands on experience with a range of projects and variety of challenges that arise on plant. This will involve close collaboration with the Mechanical, Electrical and Control site and engineering teams.

  • You are working towards a degree in a MEng, BEng or BSc in Mechanical, Electrical, C&I or Aeronautical Engineering  - Please include details of modules taken on your CV. 

  • A positive 'can do' mentality, self-motivated, setting the right behaviour's. 

  • Ideally you will have an understanding of thermal cycles, valves, pumps, and heat exchangers.

  • A basic understanding of gas turbine fundamentals would also be advantageous but not essential.

  • An ability to think laterally and flexibly to deliver solutions and a 'process driven' focus to delivery.

  • Good communication skills.

  • Desire to learn about the UK power market.

  • Good organizational skills.

  • Strong IT and Microsoft Office capabilities.

 

  • Right to work in the UK. 

  • A valid Driving License is necessary.
